SOCIAL INCLUSION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT – BEST CASES TO IMPLEMENT
  • Social inclusion and community involvement are key principles in creating an open, cohesive and diverse society. Especially in the context of the integration of young refugees and migrants, it is essential to create an environment where every individual feels welcome, respected and has the opportunity to actively participate in the life of the community. Youth workers play a crucial role in this process - they help to overcome social barriers, promote intercultural dialogue and contribute to building trust between different groups. The aim of this theme is to present good approaches and examples of good practice that promote the active involvement of young people from different backgrounds and strengthen their sense of belonging.
COMMUNITY MENTORING AND PEER-TO-PEER PROGRAMMES
Community mentoring is a form of support in which young refugees are matched with peer mentors from the majority society. These "buddies" help with social orientation, daily tasks, language and provide natural social contact. The support is two-way - the mentor also gains new perspectives and experiences.
Best practices

NATURE, ART AND CULTURE AS A TOOL OF INCLUSION
Art and cultural projects offer a safe space for self-expression and sharing stories. Young people can participate in plays, exhibitions, musical performances or community mural projects. Equal access and active involvement of all participants is important.

Recommendations for implementation
Establishing cooperation with artists or cultural institutions.
Use a participatory approach - young people themselves decide on the form of the output.
PARTICIPATIVE PROJECTS AND EVENTS
Joint community events such as neighbourhood festivals, intercultural picnics or public discussions are an effective way to bring different groups of residents together. When young refugees are involved in the preparation, it strengthens their sense of belonging and active citizenship.
